Finstertaler reservoir

The high alpine location and the absolute silence (cars are an exception here) are a perfect reward for the effort. Likewise, the reservoir invites you to take an extensive break.

Those who drive the Kühtaisattel should not miss this. The added 370 m of altitude, as the road leads beautifully upwards in the high alpine landscape.

The road to the Finstertal reservoir is a small service road that branches off to the south shortly below the pass summit of the Kühtai road on the west side at an altitude of approx. 1970 m. The road was built with a moderate gradient. During construction, no emphasis was placed on moderate gradients, and thus some of the steeper alpine roads have been created. The highlight here is a 360-degree loop, half of which leads through a small tunnel.

With the classic west approach into Kühtai, there is a long ascent with 1,550 meters of altitude, but only the steep Haimingerberg (north approach) as the first uphill section offers us the full program. The 20 km long descent to the town of Oetz compensates for the exertion.
