Characteristics
The Reinhard-Schiestl via ferrata on the Burgsteiner Wand is the most difficult via ferrata in the Ötztal. It leads over an almost vertical granite wall over 200 m in height, secured throughout with a wire rope, clamps and footholds. There are plenty of footholds and 3 rest areas. At the exit at the mountain meadows of Burgstein, with a magnificent panoramic view over the Stubai and Ötztal Alps.
Difficulty /Equipment
At the beginning a steep entry wall with small overhang C/D, then continuous B /C with partly steep wall structure, via a cross passage B and a steep step D to the exit. Three rest areas to recover and gather strength. Equipment: helmet, harness with via ferrata set, via ferrata gloves, suitable footwear, possibly poles for the descent.
Climbing length and time required
200 meters of altitude and 300 m of rope length. 1 1/2 - 2 hours, with the descent about 2 1/2 - 3 hours.
Descent
Signposted descent path to Längenfeld, from there back towards Astlehn, walking time approx. 45 minutes. Access to the village of Burgstein is also possible by car.
